This book centers around Magnus Chase, a homeless teenager living in Boston. Magnus dies and ends up learning about his father, who is a Norse God. Based on Norse mythology, this book is a thrilling adventure to stop the prophicised end of the world as we know it.
My favorite character in the first book is Magnus himself, very rarely is my favorite the main character, I usually go for the more in the shadows characters. The reason Magnus draws me in is his humor, he is funnier than many other characters I have encountered so far. His sharp sense of humor never fails, even in death, cautioning readers not to jump off bridges.
One of the things that I find interesting in this book is that not only is the main female lead Muslim but Samirah Al-Abbas has no romantic interest in the main male lead, Magnus.
So, if you want to read about modernized Norse mythology narrated by a dead teenager with a sense of humor than Magnus Chase and the Sword of Summer might be your best shot at achieving satisfaction.
