Savvy by Ingrid Law, is about Mississippi “Mibs” Beumont. Mibs is about to turn 13, a special time in the Beaumont family, a time when you get your savvy, a sort of magical power. Just before Mibs’ birthday, her father is badly injured. Her mother and older brother leave to stay with him in the hospital in Salina and leave Mibs and the rest of her siblings at home witht their Grandfather.
Determined to see her Poppa, Mibs, her two other brothers, and a few others, sneak onto a school bus supposedly headed toward Salina. When it turns the opposite direction, none of them know what kind of adventure to expect.
Most of my favorite parts surround being on the bus and discovering something about a character.The friendships and encounters are so sweet and realistic.
The first time I read this book I cried, I don’t remember why, but this book is so truthful. All of the characters are special and complement the others, you’ll see how when you read it.
Throughout Mibs’ adventuress of discovering her Savvy, making friends, causing trouble, and almost getting her friends arrested, will she ever see her Poppa again.
